Food for the Block is dedicated to providing warm, homemade packed meals to individuals living on the streets, with a particular focus on Venezuelan refugees, including vulnerable children and newborns. Through our social media channels, you can witness the stories of these resilient refugees who have embarked on a challenging journey in search of job opportunities in a foreign land like Colombia, where even locals face a scarcity of employment prospects.

Every time Catalina ventures out to feed those in need, she is confronted with the harsh reality of limited resources. It is disheartening that despite her best efforts, she often runs out of food before everyone can be served. Even as the team prepares to depart, individuals, often accompanied by young children, approach them, asking for something to eat. Witnessing these heartbreaking scenes has moved Catalina to tears, as she deeply feels the weight of their hunger and the lack of sufficient provisions.

As a professional cook, Catalina takes immense joy in the opportunity to provide nourishment to those who may otherwise go without a meal for the day. Our Saturday night distributions are strategically timed to reach individuals who have returned from their day's endeavors, such as recycling or selling goods on the streets, allowing them to share a wholesome meal with their families. The presence of numerous children tugs at Catalina's heartstrings, but it also brings her solace to know that, at least for that night, these children will sleep with full bellies and a sense of comfort.
